Abyss Double Bath Tub Mat: The Detail that Makes the Difference
Legendary designer and architect, Charles Eames, said it best: “The details are not the details. They make the design.”
We couldn’t agree more. And when it comes to your luxury bathroom, one such “design-making detail” is an Abyss Double Bath Tub Mat. This elemental piece is the unsung hero of your bath experience and -- no surprise -- is five-star rated by Fine Linen and Bath clients. Let’s take a closer look at this essential bath accessory.
Bath Rugs vs. Bath Mats: Understanding the Differences
The terms “bath mat” and “bath rug” are sometimes used interchangeably; this can add to confusion because bath rugs and bath mats are two different things. Rugs, like the Must and Reversible rug styles, are heavier, made to sit directly on the bathroom floor; and can feature non-slip backing. Bath rugs also come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can also be used outside the bathroom itself in adjacent spaces.
A bath mat, on the other hand, is an extension of a towel collection. It sits directly outside the shower or bathtub and is designed to catch water from wet feet and prevent slips; it is lighter in weight, highly absorbent, and most often made of cotton terry, similar to a thick towel. A bath mat can typically be found as part of a bath towel collection and is made to coordinate in color scheme, style, and finish with the bath towels.
The Abyss Double Bath Tub Mat is part of the Abyss Super Pile towel collection, and perfectly coordinates with other Abyss towel designs as well as Habidecor Must and Reversible rugs.
About the Abyss Double Bath Tub Mat
The Abyss Double Bath Mat bridges the style and comfort gap between your Abyss Super Pile towels and Must and Reversible bath rugs. It is made in Portugal from 100% extra-long-staple Giza Egyptian cotton in a durable, long-loop terry weave with a simple inset border that echoes the spa-like style of Super Pile. At a heavy 1,200 GSM, this exceptional quality mat is essentially the thickness of two Abyss Super Pile towels (that’s intense plushness!).
The Double bath is soft, luxurious, and highly absorbent, yet lightweight enough to be machine washed. It is available in two sizes and 60 designer shades – ranging from subtle pastels and earth tones to bold primary and jewel colors – to coordinate with the Super Pile towel collection. While it is officially a member of the Super Pile towel collection, the Double Bath Mat also pairs beautifully with other Abyss towels, including Twill.
More Reasons to Love an Abyss Double Bath Tub Mat
Along with lending your bathroom a finished look, here are a few more reasons to pick up an Abyss Double Bath Mat (or two):
- Comfort: This double-layer bath mat adds to the plush feel of your bath experience. At twice the thickness of a Super Pile towel, it feels amazing on top of any Habidecor rug – including fashion rugs – or all on its own.
- Design Versatility: It comes in 60 shades to match Abyss Super Pile towels: Abyss Twill Towels; and Habidecor Must, Reversible rugs. You can choose the identical for a monochromatic look or layer shades to suit your mood and décor.
- Ease of Care: You can machine wash this tub mat easily and regularly. This is easier than washing heavier-weight rugs.
How to Style Your Abyss Double Tub Mat
The Double Tub Mat comes in the same 60-shade color palette as Super Pile towels and in two convenient sizes: small (20" x 31") and medium (23" x 39"). Place a mat on top of a rug wherever additional comfort, absorbency, or protection are needed. With the wide range of Must rug sizes, we typically recommend having at least two bath rugs: one for outside the tub/shower and one for in front of the sink. You can place a Double Bath Tub mat on top of each of these.
"Using the Double Bathtub Mat on the rugs in front of your sink is a great way to add a layer of comfort and to keep the rug fresher for longer,” said Fine Linen and Bath Associate Brand Manager, Helena Hendricks.
The wide color palette allows you to choose a bath mat in the same shade as your Habidecor bath rug, but you need not be constrained by color. Some of our clients prefer the pristine look of white towels but have solid color or patterned rugs on the floor. In these instances, they can choose a bath mat that is either white or one that picks up the color (or one of the colors) in the rug. The idea is not necessarily to match but, rather, to coordinate. The choice is all yours!
As always, the Fine Linen and Bath design team is here to help you choose your perfect bath towels, bath mats, and bath rugs. You can explore the Abyss Habidecor collection and call or email us for suggestions and individualized recommendations.
