Matouk: A World of Customization in Home Linen
There are so many reasons to love Matouk home textiles. Matouk is a world leader in luxury linen, widely known for its quality materials, superior craftsmanship, and innovative design. Honestly, we could go on for hours. But one of our favorite things about Matouk is that the majority of their products are made in their very own factory in Fall River, Massachusetts (we're lucky enough to visit from time to time!). Of course, the Fine Linen and Bath design team is always proud to support the finest American-made products. But Matouk's stateside location delivers another wonderful benefit to our clients: the ability to offer custom personalization with monograms, applique, embroidery, and endless design combinations.

Expanding Array of Custom Design Options
According to our design team lead, Mary Babinski, Matouk has significantly enhanced their customization options over the past several seasons. "Matouk has offered customization throughout the two decades we've worked with them, and we almost always have a custom project in design," she said. "Recently, however, the custom options have grown so much more vast and even more sophisticated. These options allow our clients to work with us to create bespoke pieces that reflect their unique visions for their homes."
Traditional Monograms and Much More
Monograms are a time-honored tradition in the world of luxury linen. Adding a monogram to home linen was popularized in the Victorian era and remains a favorite way to add a personal touch to home linen. Matouk keeps the tradition alive and well with a fresh twist: by incorporating state-of-the-art production techniques, Matouk offers a wide range of distinctive classic and sleek modern monograms to reflect your personal style. Finishing your Matouk bed, bath, and table linen with a monogram elevates these pieces from to be cherished family heirlooms for generations to come.
Fine Linen and Bath will guide you, step-by-step, through your monogramming options:
- Choosing a monogram style that speaks to you, whether elaborate or clean and classic
- Picking the perfect thread color from among hundreds of choices
- Adding names or initials in your ideal combination
- Enhancing your monogram with a medallion
- Selecting your monogram placement
Most clients choose to have their monograms embroidered (stitched directly onto the textile); however, the option for a bolder applique monogram is also available. Read more about applique below.
Custom Embroidery Defines Your Unique Style
Embroidery is a decorative sewing technique that incorporates thread or yarn. Automatic embroidery machines can be used to create some embroidered pieces, such as the stock embroidered styles like Classic Chain and Bel Tempo. All Bespoke custom embroidered items are produced using a hand-guided embroidery machine.
Even at its most understated, embroidery brings a richness to linen; at its most intricate, it adds a pleasing lightness and a finished quality to towels, sheets, duvets, and shams. You can customize embroidery with both style and thread color; Fine Linen and Bath will work with you to create your own unique embroidered look with a choice of embroidery thread and placement.

Applique: A Bolder, Dimensional Signature
Applique is a technique whereby smaller pieces of fabric -- typically of a contrasting color or texture -- are sewn to the textile to create a pattern or motif. Applique is thicker and wider than embroidery because of the cut and sew technique; it produces a bolder, graphic look that is bigger in scale. Even the simplest styles of applique are sewn (vs. being produced by an automated machine).
At Matouk, applique fabric is either sheeting fabric (in most cases, it is made from the Nocturne sateen fabric) or bias tape, an open, starchy fabric that is cut into ribbons with the grain going diagonally. The applique technique can be used for both designs and statement-level monograms. Fine Linen and Bath can help you choose the best applique fabric, design, and placement to create a memorable look all your own.
