The Scandia Home Down Difference
Down is a three-dimensional plume that is warmer, fuller, and more resilient than a feather. It is the best natural insulator available and creates a healthy and comfortable sleeping environment. When deciding upon a down offering, there are a few qualities to consider.
Origin: Down from colder climates are large and resilient, thus creating more warmth than down from a more temperate locale. Scandia uses Northern European and Siberian white goose down for their superior insulation abilities.
Fill Power: Measured in cubic inches, fill power is the ability of down to regain its original volume- or loft- after being compressed. The higher the fill power, the warmer and loftier the comforter or pillow. The fill power of Scandia Down pillows and comforters ranges from 600 all the way to 800-900 fill power.
Purity: In order to avoid causing allergies, which are often associated with inferior down, each plume must be immaculate. Scandia uses only the finest white down in the world. Then it follows a meticulous,12-step purification process to ensure that it is absolutely pristine. This proprietary measure results in down that is so refined, that it is hypo- allergenic. Additionally, all Scandia Home fabrics conform to the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, assuring you of the absence of harmful substances.
Responsible Down Sourcing: Down traceability and ethical treatment of animals are the primary considerations in how we source raw materials for Scandia Down. Since 2016, all Scandia Home down-filled products are certified to The Responsible Down Standard (RDS). The Responsible Down Standard is an independent, voluntary global standard that recognizes the best practices in animal welfare, and excludes any that violate the animal’s well-being.
