Bloomingdale’s Abyss Super Line Towels: Product Details

The Abyss Super Line is made exclusively for Bloomingdale's and shares the same foundational DNA as the Super Pile: 100% Egyptian Giza extra-long-staple cotton, the same signature bias tape trim, and the same rounded corner finish for added durability. However, the Super Line features a distinctive wide 5½-inch dobby on one end that gives it a tailored, elegant look. 

While Bloomingdale's markets the Super Line at 700 GSM, it is worth understanding what that number actually means in practice. The dobby border is a flat weave — significantly lighter than terry loops — and the loop density in the terry section of the towel is not increased to compensate for this flat border. The result is a towel that sits in the 700 GSM class but does not deliver the same physical cotton mass as a full terry construction at that weight.

Additionally, because the dobby weave and the terry body respond differently to heat, the Super Line can be prone to differential shrinkage over time; the dobby end may shrink at a slightly different rate than the terry body, causing the towel to lose its perfectly rectangular shape with repeated laundering.
